About the Pokot Airlift

We prepare talented students from West Pokot for fully-funded study in the U.S. through mentorship, standardized test prep, essay coaching, and financial guidance, plus travel and pre-departure support.

Overview of the Program

This initiative not only aims to provide education but also to empower students, fostering long-term positive change in the community.

Inspiration

Inspired by the historic Kennedy Airlift Program (1959) that enabled 81 Kenyan students to study in the U.S.

Leadership

Dr. Lydia Cheruto leads the initiative, collaborating with U.S.-based lenders and an African Scholars Program.

Financial Support

  • Tuition & Relocation: Up to $100,000 per student, repaid after two years at 9% interest.
  • Work-Study: U.S. institutions provide on-campus work-study opportunities.

Partnerships

Established connections with 28 universities in the USA and 2 in Canada.

Program Launch

Undergraduate programs commence January 2025 (KCSE C+), with degree pathways based on academic qualifications, second class lower (GPA 2.8) to upper class division.

Is Pokot Airlift a full scholarship?
We offer full scholarships to the very needy that covers relocation expenses, tuition, visa and application costs. For the moderately needy, we cover half of the visa and application costs and full tuition and relocation fees. For the fairly able we cover tuition and relocation only
Do I need SAT, IELTS or TOEFL?
It is not a mandatory requirement.
Do I need GMAT or GRE to get admitted to a Masters Program?
It is not a mandatory requirement.
How does the $100,000 support work?
Eligible students may receive up to $100,000 for tuition and relocation, repaid after two years at 9% interest. Terms depend on the tuition fee charged by respective Universities.
What about visa and application fees?
Group 1: $1,100 fully covered · Group 2: $600, with $500 covered · Group 3: responsible for full $1,100.
